Halloween cookies
Halloween cookies that look back at you. Browned-butter dough becomes orange, purple and pink cookies, then the golden one gets a face.
Which face catches your eye first? One browned-butter dough, split three ways, then the golden cookie gets piped chocolate, candy eyes and a smile. Watch to the end for the break-open.
Steps
- 1
Melt the butter until golden brown. Combine with the sugar, brown sugar, eggs, salt, baking soda and vanilla extract.
- 2
Divide the mixture into three bowls. Add food colouring, flour (100 g per bowl) and chocolate to make three coloured doughs.
- 3
Scoop onto parchment and press in extra chocolate. Cover and chill in the fridge for 1 hour so it won't absorb fridge smells.
- 4
Bake at 180°C / 350°F for 12–15 minutes.
- 5
Decorate the golden cookie with piped chocolate, candy eyes, a smile and chocolate chips.
