Cinnamon rolls
Four soft cinnamon rolls with a warm cream pour before baking and cream cheese frosting after.
What goes on before they go in the oven? Slightly warm heavy cream, poured over the rolls after the second rise. The cream cheese frosting comes after, with a caramel or strawberry drizzle.
Steps
- 1
Stir the yeast into the warm milk with a pinch of the measured sugar. Leave 10 minutes until foamy.
- 2
Sift the flour and mix with the salt and remaining sugar. Add the yeast mixture and melted butter. Mix into a dough, then knead about 5 minutes until smooth.
- 3
Grease the bowl with oil, cover and let the dough rise about 30 minutes until puffy. Grease the baking dish with oil.
- 4
Roll the dough into a rectangle. Mix the brown sugar and cinnamon. Spread the softened butter over the dough and sprinkle with the cinnamon sugar.
- 5
Cut into 4 equal strips and roll each piece. Place cut side up in the dish, cover and rise 20 minutes.
- 6
Preheat to 200°C, upper and lower heat. Pour the slightly warm cream over the rolls after the second rise. Bake on the middle rack; check from 12–14 minutes. Bake a few minutes longer if the centres look raw.
- 7
Beat the frosting butter and powdered sugar until smooth. Mix in cream cheese and vanilla. Spread over the baked rolls while slightly warm; finish with caramel or strawberry sauce as desired.
